气象学 Previous Catalog Year Information

The 气象学 degree remained the same for a long time until 2021-2022 when we removed the General Physics II lecture from the major and replaced it with the General Physics II lab. We also began requiring the Radar and Satellite course, which used to be on the list of electives. This meant we reduced the number of meteorology elective credits from 8 to 5.

In 2022-2023 we took the traditional meteorology degree and renamed it “Professional 气象学.” We added a second concentration named “Applied 气象学,” which is quite different and does not require the math minor. Students on older catalogs wishing to declare the Applied 气象学 concentration should speak to the department advisor to get their catalog moved to the 2024-2025 catalog. In 2024-2025 we changed MTR 2040 (1 credit) to MTR 3040 Programming for Meteorologists (3 credits) and also began to require a new course, MTR 3000 Weather Discussion (1 credit). The minor requirement went away at the university. For the Professional concentration we brought the math courses into the major requirements and removed the requirement for a math minor, but students can still declare and complete a math minor with one additional course. Math courses will automatically count in the major and minor. The minor requirement for the Applied concentration went away, opening up many possibilities to personalize the major by career track.
